First week of the year

Rosie Butcher Maje Paris

We are midway through the second week of January and it already feels like this year is going to fly by. I feel like my mind hasn’t quite got back into work mode yet and every task is taking a little longer than it did towards the end of last year when I was rushing through everything trying to get things finished before the holidays.

At the end of last year I decided I was going to get back in to yoga. I had lost interest in exercise since June, yes 6 months ago and I was beginning to see the effects on my mind and body. Feeling un toned and sluggishly tired all the time. I decided to get back into something I used to love when I lived in London 4 years ago - yoga! I took a little look online and found a local yoga … Place? Which does both hot and normal yoga and signed up for their beginners offer of 30 days for £30, I called my friend Samio to see if she fancied it too and she did! And I am proud to say that we have been 6 times since then.

What I’ve noticed from my 6 days of yoga is that it is becoming addictive. We have been going in the mornings, but today I decided I will go to the evening class and I am so excited for tonight’s class I almost can’t concentrate today

  • I am also surprised at how much I ache. Every muscle in my body seems to be aching. It is amazing that such a slow and controlled form of exercise and stretching can do this.

  • My mind feels clearer. I feel a lot more relaxed about situations which would have normally made me stressed . e.g breaking my laptop screen a couple of days ago. I am thinking a lot more rationally.

  • I take note of my breathing throughout the day.  I am breathing deeper and it feels clearer. I don’t think I have ever noticed my breathing before but as yoga practise focuses so much on this- it has really brought it to my attention in a positive way.

  • I am finding it easier to concentrate after I do a class.

  • I actually look forward to going!

So yeh, I am really hoping this is something I keep up throughout the year because I am really feeling the benefits of it. It is also incredible to take note of how your body feels at the end of the class compared to the beginning.

It’s not all been exercise since the start of the year. I have watched a few series and spent my evenings being a couch potato. The best one being “Cuckoo” on netflix, it has had me giggling away while I do my work. The series actually started in 2012 but I have only just discovered it and absolutely love it - Brilliantly written and brilliant cast - one being Greg Davies, which anything with him in I usually find funny!

We’ve also watched “Don’t F**k with Cats”  - A murder series which everyone seems to watching at the moment. Bit weird - Not something I could watch on my own - but then again I can’t watch even watch Signs on my own. Not sure it was quite up to the hype it has but glad we watched it as it was pretty interesting and the cliffhangers made us binge watch it!

And pretty chic flicky series and a lot more light hearted but something I really enjoyed watching was “Spinning Out” - A series about an ice skater with bi polar. All the characters had interesting story lines.

Food.

Yesterday we had lunch at one of my favourite spots in town, Ezra and Gill - they have a new special on the menu.. “Vegan Cauliflower Piadina” … It does contain sweet potato, which I have an intolerance too ( I get bad skin after eating it) but I decided to go for it anyway …. It is so delicious and I would go as far to say my new favourite on their menu, so if you are based in Manchester, near by or visiting soon. I would highly recommend it.

So that is my week so far. Going to crack on with planning some test shoots now. January is usually pretty quiet for me work wise so I am going to make sure I fill it with creating the editorial ideas which I have had sat in the back of my mind all of last year.
