Whats on... At home!

whats on…

A bunch of ideas of what to do at home

So I wanted to start a “What’s On” series as a lot of my friends always say that I am the person they come to to find out what’s on in terms of events or exhibitions.. So I thought why not make it a monthly blog post.. However in light of the recent situation… a lot of what is on and what I had written ready to share has been canceled or postponed so I thought why not focus on what is on in our homes instead as sometimes I think when you're feeling a little bored or a little lost it can be easy to forget the simple things we can do to entertain ourselves.

Read a book

Everyone has a book in their house which hasn’t been finished yet or is waiting to be started! Charity shops are also great for picking up a good book. If you haven't here is a list I recommend

  • Tattooist of alchsquitz ( just a little lol at my spelling there.. I of course mean tattooist of Auschwitz.. Bloody dyslexia)

  • The Rosie Project

  • Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine

  • I love every book by Fiona Walker… they are real chic lits though about horse riding country people so won’t be everyone’s cup of tea haha

  • Little fires everywhere - quite slow but still enjoyed it

  • I also really want to read Little Women after watching the film

Do a puzzle

  • My aunt and friend are big puzzlers… they love them. A few months ago when I was struggling to switch off in the evenings I decided to pop to my local charity shop and pick up a puzzle. I bloody love it.. Yes it has been months since I bought it and I am still working at it ( it is an 1000 piece one where all the pieces look the same - so pretty hard)  but the joy is if you have a spare evening you can work on it or if you only have 10 mins you can also pick it up on work on it. I have got myself a puzzle board so I can do it wherever in the house I want too!

Watch youtube

Below is a list of my favourite youtube accounts.

  • I found this the other day and I love it… I have only just really started to listen to Billie and its safe to say I am now obsessed! I find her tunes so calming

  • I find their videos so calming and it will be a great source of escapism. They make me want to buy a boat and sail around the world. You can also watch them sailing Greta Thunberg across the world

Do some decorating -

I know we will be painting our stairs and skirting boards for sure!!!

Make a spotify playlist

I have started a couple (still work in progress) … Chilled at home,  Happy at home  and Golden oldies … Feel free to have a listen and DM me or comment on here with any suggestions on what I could add - I always love finding new artists to listen too. Arlo Parks is my new favourite!

...I’m also tempted to do one making light of the situation… The Knack - My Sharona would be first on the list.. I’m constantly singing my carona.. Haha

Make cards  -  For peoples birthdays and Christmas I hand make cards… I think I might take this time to make batches to give out throughout the year.

Re work your wardrobe

I do this every couple of months usually on a Sunday, but I love taking the time to try different pieces in my wardrobe to create different looks, Normally I just throw stuff on and go which is usually what you see on my instagram haha but occasionally I like to actually take time to try things out. It keeps my wardrobe feeling fresh and stops me buying. A good way to do this is to go on pinterest or any looks you might have saved on instagram for inspiration or I also write notes on my phone of looks to try when they come in to my head so this could be a good time to try those outfits out!

We will all come out of this isolation with a whole new look!

Have a spring clean -

This is the time to do it, sort out your belongings, anything you could donate to charity? When was the last time you sorted out everything under your bed or even moved it and hoovered behind it?

Have you got a kitchen draw that you just shove everything in… never to be seen again?

Or even is your desktop covered in files or maybe you have full hard drives but know there is stuff you can get rid of now? Now is the time people

Play card games - there are so many solo games you can play or if you’re lucky to be isolated with someone else then you can play with them too.

Have a google.

My favourite games are : rummy, sevens, chase the ace and trumps.

Games

If card games isn’t your thing and you’re isolated with others. Try the game “buzzed out” you can order it from amazon and it is the best game ever! (Although may course fall outs for competitive families haha)

Yoga  -

I have absolutely loveddddddddd going to my yoga classes this year and it makes me so sad that this might stop now but if I can no longer go to a class I am going to do classes at home.. It is so good for your mind. It really really helps your mind too so I highly recommend it. It is also totally ok if your favourite part is lying still and nearly falling asleep for 2 minutes at the end. MY yoga teacher tells me it is one of the most important parts!

Here are a couple of youtube yogies which I will be watching..

Get baking

  • I am going to learn to make banana bread because I love it and I hear it is easy to make. I got some really green bananas go that will take a while for them to go bad and then I can make it so I still have something to do in a couple of weeks.

Learn a language

  • I have wanted to learn Spanish since forever… Is now the time to finally crack this?

Get in the garden

  • I’ve just come off the phone to my granny and she’s reminded me that I can start growing my veggies in the garden again. Things you can grow at the moment and are “easy” are peas, broad beans, lettuce, radishes, spring onions and carrots.

  • We don’t have much of a garden.. Just some slabs and some boxes with soil so no excuses for anyone.

And if all else fails?

Tik Tok? Haha… I’m sure at some point you will see me there doing ridiculous dance moves depending on how long this epidemic goes on for! Haha.

My user name is rosieannbutcher… at the moment I have just uploaded fashion videos but lets see how long it takes me to upload a video of me dancing to Sean Paul haha...
