What a mum really wants...

Mother’s day gift guide

What A New Mum Wants…

When you hear the words Mother’s Day, what first pops into your head might be something along the lines of flowers and chocolates and whilst that is nice, sometimes it’s a good idea to mix it up a bit, after all, it’s all about celebrating the mother figure in your life and making her feel special.

I’m focusing particularly on new mums in this post, because in the midst of us winging it, wondering how time is moving faster and trying to find ourselves again, all while navigating looking after a tiny human… Medela breast pads, Lanolin nipple cream, and Tenna ladies might be what a new mum needs but I’m not so sure that really says, “Thank you for being so amazing!”

As it's going to be my first Mother's Day this year, apart from last year when my bump managed to write me a card (the first sign that she was going to be a complete genius!), I have compiled a go-to Mother’s Day gift guide and whilst I do have new mums in mind writing this, these are things which would make lovely gifts to any mum or caregiver.

Everything listed has been tried and tested and I’ve used it for at least 6 months, apart from the mascara which is a new addition... but just wait until you see the results. Those lashes speak for themselves! And remember! All of these fab gifts can be found at Boots in store and online in the Gifts for her or Mother’s Day gifts sections.

OK - let's go…

Lumie alarm clock on bedside table present ideas for mothers day
  1. The lumie alarm clock…

A clock which used to wake me up in the mornings is now the perfect feeding nightlight - something I never expected. I love that it adjusts to exactly how much light there is in the room and glows with a soft warm red which doesn’t wake Tom who’s snoozing next to me. Ohh and then tells me the time too. Although some nights I don’t even want to look! For days when Olive has too long a nap (is that even a thing? At the moment it's 30 min naps max! Haha) I would also use the light alarm setting to gradually wake he

2. The Vanity Mirror..

At the moment, I end up doing my makeup anywhere in the house where I can grab for a couple of mins so having a freestanding, small mirror which I can grab and take anywhere is so helpful. Since having Olive I’ve noticed it's only after I've been out all day that my makeup is everywhere. Half done in the dark, half in a rush. Luckily since I got this mirror that has put a stop to that! They also do one with a boujie ring light on it to help you see what you're applying where on even the dullest of days.

3. Instax mini link.

I am forever wanting to print out my favorite photos of us for her memory box but actually finding the time to do it never seems to come. I love having this mini Instax printer as it means I can easily print off pictures and pop them in her scrapbook/memory box as we go and the pictures don’t just get forever kept only on my phone. I also LOVE the polaroid quality to them adding to the aesthetic

4. Pamper experience for two

Boots offer a pamper experience for two packages. A bit of pampering and me time sounds like heaven right now as one of the things I really underestimated about having a baby would be how little quality time Tom and I would get together. A pressie like this would be perfect! Or as its Mother’s Day you could even book it in with your own mum as you now know what she went through too!

5. The At Home Pamper Box

If the pamper experience isn’t up your street, then maybe a homemade pamper box would be ideal for those little moments you get to yourself. I’ve put together a list of products which I think would make it easier to keep on top of your self-care. Partners if you’re reading this… Run her a bath! Pop all these things in a little box with a magazine and glass of something nice and tell her to take an hour or two to herself. She will love it…Trust me.

Erborian red pepper paste mask -

one of my favorites masks which generally makes your skin look glowy after using it, it really, really works. Don’t be put off by the wild color… That afterglow is amazing. Try it for yourself.

Liz earle hot cloth and polish cleanser -

Oh am I a fan of the Liz Earle cleanse and Polish… (they also do a body version too.) I generally look forward to using both every single day. I love the scent, the texture of the balm and how the cloth feels like it’s really getting rid of the day's dirt. My skin feels soft but not greasy and has a slight shine to it which makes my skin, in my opinion, look younger.

Sanctuary Spa wet skin moisture miracle -

I have raved about this before so you might already know about it! It's basically a brilliant moisturiser which you put on straight after you've turned the shower off. I don’t know why but I find the ease of it really helps me keep on top of looking after my skin.

My little coco baby mama bath soak -

I used the bump butter and masks whilst I was pregnant. They say a lot of memories are held in scent and as I had a fairly lovely pregnancy, I love using this bath soak to remind me of buzz and excitement before she arrived and the connection I already felt to her.

6. Make up which is easy to apply:

Clarins beauty flash balm -   This balm is brilliant. Light weight, non-greasy and helps to keep your makeup in place. It claims to help reduce signs of fatigue and whilst I’m not sure there is anything which can help these tired eyes at the moment it certainly does help what make up I’ve managed to put on stay in place for the day

Lancôme Lash Idôle mascara -  this mascara is amazing. It makes my eyelashes look double as long, is quick and easy to apply (you don’t even end up going over and over it) and you don’t find it has rubbed off onto your eyelid or under your eyes throughout the day. It simply stays where you want it… On your eyelashes. What a surprisingly rare thing to find in a mascara! Highly recommend this one! Also to note - Zendaya is the celebrity endorser which makes me love it even more!

CHANEL ROUGE COCO FLASH - Mum discovered this lipstick years ago, so I know its mum approved and I have since copied.  Our favorite colour is Immediate but this year I am gifting mum the colour Jour, as seen in these photos, as the next colour up.  Why do we love these lipsticks so much? They have a really lovely natural looking sheen to them, they are easy to put on, and you don’t have to worry about it smudging or getting it on your teeth because it just won’t happen! It can help make you feel a bit more put together in (excuse the pun) A flash!

And that concludes the Mother’s Day gift guide! Thanks for taking the time to read, I hope you’ve found it helpful. Everything I have featured is available from Boots stores and online. At the time of writing this there are some big discounts on gift collections too!

Let me know if you buy anything for your own mum or if you have used one of the products before and would recommend by popping a comment in the section below. I’m sure it would be so helpful for other readers to see your opinion too!

Happy Mother’s Day!
